Description
John Kendrick Bangs (1862-1922) was an American journalist, essayist and writer who is considered to be the inventor of the term 'Bangsian fantasy' — a substyle in science fiction that is mostly set in the afterlife. For writing his books Bangs employed the knowledge of Ancient Greek and Roman mythology and combined it with the traditional Christian image of heaven, hell and purgatory. Bang's characters are most prominent people in the world's history as well as common people we can meet in our day-to-day life. But there is an element in Bang's writing style that makes his stories even more peculiar — the notable delicate humor that pierces all the narration. Besides writing prose John Bangs was also a prolific poet who wrote one poem a day. Still, his poetical career was pursued mostly for financial reasons and his productivity couldn't buy him an actual talent of a poet.
